The Digital Lab Ambassador Program is open exclusively to high school students who are motivated to lead and make a difference.

We’re looking for students who are eager to take ownership of a meaningful global project—by fundraising, coordinating with a school in Ethiopia, and staying engaged with the students who use the lab.

• Interested students must complete an application and participate in a short interview.

• Ambassadors are selected quarterly based on their interest, initiative, and potential to successfully launch and manage a digital lab.

This is a selective program designed to develop leadership and real-world impact—perfect for students who want to stand out on college applications and make a lasting difference.

By becoming a Digital Lab Ambassador, you become part of the GGE family—a global community committed to expanding access to quality education in underserved communities.

As an ambassador:

• You’ll be part of our mission to bring meaningful, student-led change to schools across Ethiopia

• You’ll participate in quarterly virtual gatherings with fellow ambassadors to share updates, exchange lessons learned, and explore topics related to education, leadership, and impact

• You’ll have ongoing communication and support from the GGE team throughout your journey

This is more than a one-time project—it’s a community of young changemakers working together to transform lives.

Each digital learning lab typically includes:

• 5 Chromebooks for student use

• An EdTech device that makes the full Khan Academy K–12 curriculum and other educational content available offline, without any internet connection

• A local lab coordinator who:

  • Opens and supervises the lab

  • Registers students and provides ongoing support

  • Sends regular updates and reports on student attendance and progress

• Access outside school hours—labs are open on weekdays after school, on Saturdays, and during the summer to give students consistent learning opportunities

These components ensure that students can learn at their own pace in a reliable, supported environment—even in areas without internet access.

Setting up a digital learning lab typically costs $890, which includes Chromebooks, an EdTech device (preloaded with offline Khan Academy content), and a one-year stipend for a local lab coordinator.

For schools that already have computers, the cost is $490, covering the EdTech device and coordinator support.

💡 Ambassadors are encouraged to raise the funds for their lab as part of the experience. GGE provides fundraising materials, sample outreach messages, a personal project page, and ongoing support to help you succeed.

No! Each lab has a local coordinator responsible for the day-to-day operations—including opening the lab, registering students, tracking attendance, and providing on-the-ground support.

That said, ambassadors are expected to stay actively involved in managing their lab at a leadership level. This includes:

• Communicating regularly with the coordinator and GGE about student registration, lab hours, and student progress

• Reviewing updates and reports provided by the coordinator

• Visiting the lab at least once, if possible, to build a connection with the school and students they’re supporting

GGE also has a local oversight team that supports and supervises all lab operations across partner schools in Ethiopia.

GGE provides comprehensive support to ensure your lab is successfully launched and runs smoothly. This includes:

• School selection and matching

• Setup and coordination for Chromebooks and the EdTech device

• Training and onboarding of a local lab coordinator

• Shipping and logistics for lab equipment

• Ongoing technical support to ensure devices function properly

• A dedicated sponsor webpage to showcase your project, share updates, and support fundraising
