Emnet Getachew’s Digital Lab

Northern Virginia
Digital Lab Ambassador

Hi, my name is Emnet Getachew. I am a student at Robinson Secondary School in Virginia and an ambassador for Girls Growing Education. I love going to school to learn, and I’m lucky to attend a world-class school—one with a rigorous program called the International Baccalaureate. I’m eternally grateful for the cards I have been dealt and hope to use them well. Outside of school, I enjoy learning about human psychology and reading.

I believe that everyone should have equal access to education. Everyone should be given a chance to change their lives and futures, no matter the country or tax bracket they were born into.

Knowledge has always been our greatest defense. Those who lack knowledge—or were never given access to it—often turn to other methods of coping. I believe that if everyone became properly educated, the reasons for conflict would simply cease to exist. Of course, knowledge does not merely pertain to general facts, but also perspective.

I believe that once someone has mastered objective truths, they can truly value others’ perspectives.

If we begin by educating the younger generation and instilling a desire to learn, we can prevent the mistakes of those before us. We can create a world not just diverse in ethnicity, but diverse in perspective.

This is my hope for the children I’ve sponsored—that they use their newfound resources for good.
