As we stand on the brink of a new era, it’s clear that the future holds exciting possibilities with advancements in Technology -AI. This next wave of technological advancement is both an opportunity and a challenge for education sector. If not handled correctly, it could further drive inequity.

We have had high-level conversations with leaders in this space, and the consensus is clear: we need to act now. In conclusion, GGE offers a simple, inexpensive solution that provides the same content for all, allowing both children and educators to excel. It is a tool that can help close the gap and ensure that the benefits of technology are accessible to all.

10:30 - 11:00 am

The three cofounders of Girls Growing Education (GGE)—Grace, Ginevra, and Ela—had the opportunity to present our ongoing work in Ethiopia and share our vision for the future. Their presentation highlighted our commitment to partnering with education stakeholders to bring quality education to students in Ethiopia through our innovative EdTech device.

11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Selected students who participated in the Girls Growing Education pilot last summer camp in 2023, took the stage to bring their testimony of what it meant for them to have had access to an enrichment program that provides a free, impactful curriculum and accelerated asynchronous learning…. in their own words.

12:00 - 1:15 pm
Dominic Muntanga (UNICEF), Samuele Rosa (IMF), Tsebaot Bekele Habte (WORLD BANK GROUP), Shalom Yacob Araya (AYZON FOUNDATION)
MODERATOR: Fikre Zewdie

The summit featured two insightful panel discussions, with representatives from international organizations like UNICEF and the World Bank, as well as local and international nonprofits including Imagine 1 Day, Ayzon Foundation, and I Care for the Nation. Government representatives also contributed valuable perspectives. We extend our sincere thanks to all the panelists for their contributions, which enriched the discussions and provided essential feedback.

1:15 - 1:30 pm
1:30 - 2:30 pm
2:30 - 3:30 pm

Representatives from NGOs and educators share their point of view on how GGE’s simple solution can work in a complex system.

  • How does this project correlate with what they do?
  • Where do they see an overlap and/or potential collaboration?
  • What next steps are necessary to ensure the project can be successful?
3:30 - 4:30 pm

Our conversations during and after the summit underscored the role GGE can play in supporting Ethiopia’s Digital Education Strategy. Our goal is not only to make our EdTech devices accessible but also to collaborate with partners on strategies to ensure their effective use by students and educators. We are committed to providing ongoing support for deployed devices, including content updates and technical assistance, to maximize their impact.

4:30 pm

Following the summit, we engaged in follow-up meetings with teams from the World Bank, USAID, Imagine 1 Day, Ayzon Foundation, and other key organizations. We also traveled to Arba Minch, where we had the privilege of visiting one of our GGE Learning Labs. It was an inspiring experience to meet the students there and witness firsthand the impact of our work.

Thank you to everyone who participated in and supported the summit. We look forward to continuing our work together to create a brighter future for education in Ethiopia.
