We had no idea what to expect when arriving in Addis Ababa. The first thing that struck all of us was the unbelievable friendliness and hospitality from everyone we encountered starting at the airport and throughout our entire stay. The school that hosted the camp was in the middle of the city and, as expected had no internet accesses. This was the background of the GGE mission; provide full access to Khan Academy without the need for an internet connection. We were pleasantly surprised at the eagerness of the students to learn and participate. The following additions to this blog will describe the camp’s daily activity in more detail. However, as one of the “GGE Dads” I have to say that the girls have done an extraordinary job in handling the management of this camp with all its curveballs and and logistics involved. The participating kids had a very significant and wonderful time. This Camp was a positive outcome proof-of-concept and the beginning of a much larger project bringing education to schools that do not have an internet connection in Ethiopia and hopefully around the world.
Grace, Ginevra, and Ela, you guys performed above and beyond providing an educational opportunity that will keep growing. We could not be prouder. The letter form the ministry of education attached says it all.
